A Workshop was held on 21st July 2023 at PMI Noida with CISOs and representatives from Thermal Generation Utilities across India on Cyber Security Preparedness in Power Sector in presence of Shri Ujjwal Kanti Bhattacharya, Director (Project), NTPC, Shri M A K P Singh, Member (Hydro), CEA and CISO-MOP, Shri Lokesh Garg, DDG (NCIIPC), Shri Maheshwar Bishoyee, CGM (IT), NTPC, GM (PMI), Senior officials from Govt. bodies – NCIIPC, IB, CERT-In, NPTI, CBIP, CEA, CSIRT-Power, CISO NTPC and CISOs from all Thermal Power generation plant – Private, State and central sector.

Inaugurating the workshop, Director (Projects), emphasised cyber security as cardinal requirement of Power sector. He stressed that, Cyber Security should be prioritized while ensuring that normal operations are not impacted. He also spoke about the increased challenges in cyber security for the power sector due to increased use of digital technologies, AI/ML, IT-OT Convergence and advised all to be more vigilant towards cyber security.

Delivering the Keynote address, Member (Hydro) CEA and CISO-MoP elaborated about the Cyber security initiatives and their importance for Cyber security resilience in the thermal power generation utilities. He urged all the thermal utilities to adopt the Cyber Security guidelines and best practices to avoid Cyber security incident and help manage the Cyber security posture of Power sector.

Presentations on identification of CII (Critical Information Infrastructure), learning from past incidents & best practices were discussed during the workshop. Technical Presentations were also made by few agencies on Cyber security.
